I found Reiki to be a strong form of support right through my pregnancy and into motherhood.
It was and remains an empowering practice that I can use every day to assist in managing my energy, calming my baby and creating a calm home environment.
I had been introduced to Reiki the year before my pregnancy - at a retreat in India, where I studied level 1. In the early weeks of my pregnanacy, I found exhaustion to be the biggest barrier. I was living in India at the time and felt quite vulnerable as the services in the remote part of India in which I was living, were not to our NHS standards (let's say) and the language and cultural barriers proved challenging as well. I was guided by the local physician to take some omega oils (brilliant advice) and then dedicated my time to creating a self care practice of Reiki morning and night where I felt huge improvements emotionally and physically.
Reiki works by balancing the 7 Chakras in our subtle energy system, allowing our mind, body and soul to work in an integrated way and at its highest potential. It is therefore effective in releasing trauma and destructive habits, preventing disease and emotional disorders as well as enhancing confidence and positivity and raising our energy to function at its best.
Having a transformative experience with Reiki myself and seeing the benefits in my friends and family, I sought a greater knowledge of this beautiful practice that was supporting me so well. At 10 weeks into my pregnancy I went on a very bumpy bus journey ( I was living in Rajasthan, India) to the holy City of Pushkar, where I studied Reiki 2 under a Mystical Reiki Master. I was slightly annoyed when I started, as he insisted on doing hours and hours of meditation before we started the course content, but I soon realised that he was wisely getting me into the right place to receive the Reiki 2 knowledge and was also re-enforcing to me the powerful effects of meditation within my well being and how this would help me as a practitioner. In this experience, I also learned to trust the wisdom of my teachers, the path on which I was travelling and to ride the flow of existence.
Reiki 2 asks you to delve deep and this is not always a happy ride, especially when dealing with morning sickness and being miles away from my partner who was keeping our business going back in Jaisalmer- but the door that opened up in that training, led me to the life I live now, where I am fully dedicated to a life of healing and helping others.
Later that year, my thirst for greater knowledge and the 'Teacher' in me, took me to Delhi when I was 4 months pregnant to study under a Psychotherapist and Doctor who were also Reiki Masters, to undertake my level 3 Reiki Mastership. I was now was full of immense knowledge and experience in Reiki and ready to share it with the world as a Master & Teacher of Reiki.
When I became a mother months later, I used Reiki confidently to help me in all aspects of my new and challenging reality. Initially it helped me to heal from the birth, both emotionally and physically and it also helped me to connect energetically with my baby in order to establish the secure attachment I so deeply desired. It was highly effective at not only balancing my energy, but also in protecting it. The calming and nurturing elements of the practice were effective in helping my baby to settle, sleep and overcome challenges such as teething, coughing and mild fevers, anxiety, sensitivity and to deal with all the travelling we were doing in the first 2 years of her life, as we were travelling between India and Australia where our extended families are.
I continued to use Reiki with my daughter and when she started nursery part-time at 2, I found it helped her to settle in and alleviate her fears and separation anxiety. Her teacher spoke to me as she was intrigued by how unusually calm and self aware she was. I explained to the teacher my practice and she was very supportive and has eventually become a client of mine to support her own motherhood journey!
Whenever my daughter suffers with emotional or minor physical ailments, I don't feel too stressed knowing that I have Reiki to support us. This year it helped ease the symptoms of chicken-pox, allergy related coughs and colds, growing pains, emotional challenges, SATS pressure as well as adapting to new environments when travelling in India and Europe.
It has helped me be fully present with my daughter as she has been growing up and has allowed me to be fully present and heart centred in my business. It has also assisted in creating a safe and secure home environment and eased friction and challenges within our family unit.
Meditation is essential in a dedicated Reiki practice, as is self practice, so in dedicating myself to this healing modality and in offering it to others has meant that I have needed to always keep myself in check. Reiki is genuinely the secret to my success as a mother and small business owner and I also see every day how it contributes to my daughters development and life
I am dedicated to sharing this wonderfully gentle, yet powerful natural healing modality and have attuned many people in Reiki here in London, including mums seeking support and empowerment as I did.
Reiki is for life and is always there to support you in your motherhood journey, as it twists and turns constantly, raising challenges when you least expect it.
My courses bring all the teachings of my wonderful Indian Masters and integrate my own experience of using it as a Mum to be and mum, making it a unique and empowering experience, one which will support you and your loved ones indefinitely. The overriding benefit of being attuned to Reiki is that everything you do is infused in Reiki energy- to the food you cook your family, to the energy you create in your house and the way your interact with your partner and the world around you. Reiki becomes a lifestyle that everyone in your world benefits from.
I will leave you with a testimonial from Gail, lovely mum of Aluna who trained with me in Reiki 1 last year:-
